  • Birthdays

You ever try not to get excited about your birthday but as it gets closer you can't help it?  I am turning 26 tomorrow and I cannot help it now.  I realized something though.  As embarrassing as it is you can't help but want people to recognize you on your birthday.  when I was part of the helpdesk I would get a card signed by the team, cake, and usually a food day ( everyone brings in a dish to celebrate and you have a great feast ) but ever since I was re-orged out of the Helpdesk that has all gone away.  I noticed it on Friday the most because no one said a thing.  No card, no cake, no happy birthday.  Now I am 26 working in a real job for the first time in my life so I shouldn't be so let down but it is an adjustment.  Heck my old team leader from the helpdesk even sent me an e-mail wishing me a happy birthday.  I haven't had him as a team leader since January but he still remembered.  It completley made my day.

So for all of you out there who get embarrased when people make a big deal about your birthday...enjoy it.  Enjoy it now because what you don't realize is that it won't last forever.  Soak it up while you got it because there will come a day when you miss it.

  • Hardees commercials

I cannot stand how Burger King and Hardees seem to want to compete for nastiest commercial ever made.  When we are talking about food I don't see how this helps because it creates ( for myself at least ) a sickening association so whenever I think about eating at Hardees I think of the commercial below and stay away.  It's just disgusting.

When you also consider that this could be played in front of children too you have to wonder why this would be made.  I would hate if I had a child that approached me with questions about what they were talking about in this commercial.  How embarrassing and appalling.  Kids can be pretty perceptive and will probably pick up on the fact that there is a joke being made here that they might not comprehend.

Then there is Burger King who combine Spongebob Squarepants with suggestive dancing and to the tune of Baby Got Back.  That's just wonderful.  We can no longer allow our kids to enjoy their childhood because they are being forced to grow up so fast by the bombardment of advertising that is facing them on Television.  What was burger king thinking?  Combining a childrens cartoon with a sex song?

Am I just overreacting or is this offensive?  Honestly I think it's wrong on many levels but please if others have a different opinion then share them because I really want to see the other side to this coin.  Thanks!

  • Truly Inspirational

I got a weekend of free HBO and Cinemax this past weekend and found myself watching this HBO Documentary called Brave New Voices and was blown away.  It shows how these teenagers write their own poetry and then present it on stage in front of thousands of other people for the opportunity to compete in a national competition in Washington D.C.  The writing and words that these kids could come up with and the situations they have had to overcome just moved me so greatly that I was left speechless when the first episode was over.  Here is a collection of teenagers rising above their circumstances, their medical issues, home life problems, or just general frustration and turning it into something so spectacular that I don't know most adults who could do what they have done.  Their prose is so well done, their emotion coming through on ever word, and all at the age of 18 or younger.  If you have HBO then watch this show.  If you have cable or any on demand service then search it out.  I hope they have it on DVD soon so I can finish the series.  This truly is a remarkable documentary and one I would encourage everyone to watch.

  • Let's get back on track

I have been going through a lot but am now ready to get back into the swing of things.  Sorry about the disappearance everybody.

Today's link is a fun game that is along the lines of guitar hero.  If you head on over to Jam Legend you too can play some music through your computer.  It's HIGHLY addictive but tons of fun.  The only downside is that I have not heard many of the songs on this site.  I am guessing it is mostly independent but hey if you do know these bands then let me know.

What do you think of this game?  Is it fun or not?  Is there a site you would like to see featured on my blog?

  • What a week

So this has been one heck of a week.  It all started this time last Saturday.  Sister in law 1 called me because she wanted my wife and I to know that she was at the hospital with her boyfriend because he had horrible pains the night before.  It turned out to blockage in his intestines which could have killed him had they not caught it in time.  He was rushed into emergency surgery to have part of his intestines removed.  That was freaky.

My wife and I then moved sister in law 2 to her and her fiance's new place.  After we had finished moving everything we were heading back along highway 44 when these torrential downpours began.  Visibility was low and because it had been so hot that day, combined with the rain, the roads were ultra slick and Sister in Law 2 was driving her dad's Ford F150 which she was not used to so I began to worry.  Sure enough down the road we see the truck blocking one lane and the shoulder facing west bound on east bound traffic.  I pull over and turn on my warning lights while she straightens out facing completely west bound now.  The truck is driveable but how do you safely turn around a full sized truck on the highway?  I called 911 so the police could help us.  The cops showed up and blocked a lane of traffic allowing her to turn the vehicle around.

If all that was not enough I came down with a bug of some sort.  It is making me congested and extremley tired.  WHEW!  So that is why I have not updated in a while.  There has been too much going on and I have been to sick to concentrate so my apologies everybody.  I hope to get back into the swing of things shortly here.

  • Age of War

Sorry for the late post everyone.  I am working into a new summer schedule so things are still being shaken out.

Today's link is a fun online game that is addictive to me.  I started it, and could not stop until I beat it ( which I did ) and it was simple enough to be fun with enough strategy to be interesting.  It is called Age of War and is a simple scrolling fighting game where you are defending your base.  Unlike other tames though this one progresses through the ages as you level up and your weapons become more and more complex.  You have to stay on your feet to stay ahead of the enemy but it can be won.  Try it out and let me know if you have a favorite online game.
