Naps - The Perfect Drug
You ever have a really good nap? I don't mean a half hour I'm gonna rest my eyes nap but a full blown it's 2 in the afternoon but I can't keep my eyes open fall asleep on the couch with the TV on kind of nap. Those are the naps that your body can't stop and loves so much. For some reason during those naps you will never sleep deeper, better, or feel so warm. Not hot mind you but comfortable warm.
I say this because yesterday I fell asleep for 4 hours. It wasn't intentional but clearly needed. I don't nap like that often but when I do it feels so good. I can't understand though why those naps are so much more restful than any sleep I ever get. It's better than my normal night time sleep. It's so good in fact that it is very difficult to wake up from. Even when something or someone makes me get up I find for an hour or more afterwards that I am a bit out of it. Almost in between sleep and awake. I can't shake it off. My body almost cries out for more. As if I could never awake from these naps but be completley happy with that all the same. I don't know why that is or what these naps do to my body that causes them to feel this way but it is undeniable.
Have you ever experienced a nap this good and does it make you feel the same way?

I like this post. This reminds me of my life back in the Philippines. Actually, taking a nap is siesta hour for Filipinos. We do really spend one hour, after lunch, for a nap. Employees have to take few minutes of siesta before going back to work at 1 p.m. Some schools allow the students to take thirty or 1 hour nap before starting a class at in the afternoon. And farmers love to take a nap under the shade of trees after a half day working in his farm. Later on,when a farmer wakes up, he feels refresh, and strong again. Most Filipinos don't want to miss a nap after lunch. We believe that one is productive in his work when he can take a rest for a while and that is by taking a nap at noon or afternoon. We recognize the need of rest for our bodies even for just a short time.
@Chemalexandru - I often think that is a great idea to have siestas. I lament the workaholic nature of the U.S. with our condemnation of naps, and low vacation time. Often time spent not working is considered wasteful in this country which I could not disagree with more. I think a little more relaxation can go a very long way to happiness and peace of mind.
@The_Wandering_Coyote - Riht, I agree that a little more relaxation can give us peace and happiness. Back in my country, most of us especially those living in an island, like mine, tend to slow down in living life. No hurry, no pressure, just living and enjoying life one day at a time.
Anyway, I understand your culture in your country. Look at your country, it's very progressive compare to my poor country. But I still believe that american people deserve to live life one day at a time by slowing down sometimes if not at all times.
@Chemalexandru - All very good points too. I think a nice middle ground between our countries would make everyone more prosperous and happy. Thanks for the comments as I love the different perspective that you are bringing.
